Transitional: in Carl Philipp Bach, one can observe the influence of the period and of his famous father on his earlier music. Simple steps, bend/rises, hops and springs are combined together into "step-units". The recurring tutti section is louder and longer than the intervening soloist sections, which are mainly marked piano and use the flute to add a new tone-color (timbre). Seventh chords as a means to an end (i.e., to propel the music to another tonal area-by means of sequence), also surprise chords: Neapolitan sixths, augmented sixths and tonic minor triads in major keys.

Numerous types of containers were used to hold flowers. In Orfeo the basso continuo is played by many instruments but mainly by organs. When church lost power and control, music moved to the courts. These towering tresses were elaborately curled and adorned with feathers, flowers, miniature sculptures and figures. In this life-size painting Christ's most humble followers are the ones who lower his body into the tomb. Dissatisfied with postmodernism as a consistent, unified framework of analysis that explains aesthetic sensibilities, Calabrese suggests that the neo-baroque offers a productive formal model with which to characterize the transformations of cultural objects of our epoch (1992, 14).

Bernini’s masterpiece is the Fontana della Barcaccia, one of the most beautiful fountains of the city. He was also visited by a representative of a Count Walsegg, who commissioned a requiem. The French composer Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) subtitled his Symphonie fantastique "Episode in the Life of an Artist"; at the symphony's performance, he distributed a program that detailed the travails of an artist suffering unrequited love. (It was an open secret that the artist was a fictionalized version of Berlioz himself, struck with love for with the actress Harriet Smithson.) The movement reproduced here, the fourth of five, is meant to depict the artist's drug-induced vision of being marched to the gallows to be hung.
